George Voinovich is a former Republican politician from Ohio who served as the 65th Governor of Ohio from 1991 to 1998. He was also a U.S. Senator from Ohio from 1999 to 2011. Voinovich's tenure as governor was marked by efforts to improve the state's economy and education system. As a senator, he focused on issues such as fiscal responsibility, national security, and environmental protection. If it is a bad program, then we ought to get rid of it. If it is a good program, we should continue it.
Well, it would be interesting to me to look at the quality of the education of people that are in the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program schools.
One thing that we are doing, which I think is really good, is when the Rising Above the Gathering Storm report was issued.
Cleveland is so bad that we have to try something else to see if we cannot make a difference.
Let us start thinking about our children. The D.C. school system is improving, but it is not where it should be.
Well, I would just like to say, Mr. Chairman, that it would be wonderful if somebody behind the scenes would take care of this, take care of it in the Appropriations Committee or someplace else, so we do not have to continue to go through…
Well, this program has been in effect since 1996, and now it is just accepted.
I think it is really important that people understand that we want the public school system to improve.
So, Mr. Chairman, I think that one of the things that we ought to talk about--I know what is going to happen here.
