Nearly two-thirds of all minimum wage workers are women and women account for most of the full-time workers in some of the lowest paying jobs in our Nation. Including 87 percent of all housekeepers, 93 percent of all child careworkers, 75 percent of all cashiers and 66 percent of all food servers. Overall, women are twice as likely as men to work at the minimum wage. Nearly 75 percent of female minimum wage workers are over 20 and 35 percent work full-time. With this raise in the minimum wage, 7.7 million women will get a raise, including 3.4 million parents and over a million single parents--who are overwhelmingly female. Raising the minimum wage would provide an additional $4,400/year for a family of three, equaling 15 months of groceries, or over 2 years of health care--helping them to keep up with rising costs. Raising the minimum wage is supported by 89 percent of the American public in a recent Newsweek poll.…
