On the recordJune 16, 2005
these are tough economic times; but our economy is resilient, and I trust that we will eventually turn things around. But even then, this administration has created structural problems that will hinder us over the long run. This administration continues to set economic records, only they are the wrong economic records. We have set under this administration a record trade deficit of over $600 billion, a record budget deficit of over $450 billion, and they have raised the debt ceiling three times. As we stand here, our national debt is over $7.8 trillion, and that is over $26,000 for each citizen. Mr. Speaker, let me tell my colleagues, that is not the legacy that I want to leave to my children and my grandchildren and the children of America. I hope it is not the legacy that Members want to leave. ____________________
