I would like to really respond to some of the statements that the gentleman from Florida (Mr. Miller) has made on this floor and in the many meetings we have had in the Committee on Census. He has often referred to a book called ``How to Lie about Statistics'' written by Darrell Huff, and he uses this as an example in his arguments against the use of modern scientific methods. Well, I decided not only to read the book, but to call the author. And, guess what? He supports modern scientific methods. I quote from Darrell Huff: ``I do not think there is any controversy among professionals about the validity of sampling studies or statistical methods. They are universally used and in some cases they are the only methods possible.'' Mr. Chairman, I will put into the Record quotes from leading experts on statistics and quotes from editorial boards across the Nation, including Barbara Bryant, former Director of the Census Bureau.
