Today I rise in support of House Resolution 1610 to commemorate the ninth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks and remember the nearly 3,000 innocent victims killed that day in New York City, at the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. As we give thanks for the first responders who heroically rushed to these sites to rescue victims, our Federal government must properly support them. Tragically, many of these first responders--fire fighters, police officers, and other emergency workers--are dying from days and weeks of exposure to Ground Zero toxins and are in desperate need of medical care. I urge all Members to join me in supporting the James Zadroga 9/ 11 Health and Compensation Act (H.R. 847) when it is considered by the House next week. We must also thank the men and women of our armed forces, law enforcement officers, and members of the Intelligence Community who have saved innumerable American lives through their tireless efforts during the past nine years. As we celebrate their efforts, we must remain vigilant.
