Mr. Chairman, I thank the gentleman from California (Mr. Calvert) for yielding. Mr. Chair, I rise today to support my amendment that seeks to bring much-needed attention to the development and procurement of advanced medical devices specifically designed for the treatment and prevention of infections associated with osseointegrated prosthetics. Osseointegrated prosthetics are cutting-edge technology that involves directly anchoring a prosthetic limb to the bone, offering improved mobility and comfort for amputees compared to traditional prosthetics. Our servicemembers who have sacrificed so much for our Nation deserve nothing less than the best care that we as a nation can provide them. This work, however, extends beyond our heroes in uniform. It has the potential to significantly impact the lives of thousands of Americans who have lost limbs and are determined to regain their independence and continue to live full and productive lives. The challenge of infections in osseointegrated prosthetics is a serious one, with potential complications that can hinder recovery and diminish quality of life. By prioritizing the availability of effective treatments and preventative measures, we can ensure that all Americans, whether they are veterans or civilians, receive the highest standard of care.
