I think it is really important that the people know if we do pass some additional reforms that they are going to be enforced and that we are enforcing the current rules and regulations that we have in place today.
It is out of control. We all hate it, and it is about time we collectively think about how we can get off the treadmill that has given rise to the Abramoff abuses of the system.
It is also important that we weigh the proposed reform's reporting requirements and the costs and administrative capacity that will be incurred to administer them versus the benefit derived from a more transparent system.
That is why Senator Nelson of Nebraska and I, along with Senator Allen, are introducing legislation today that creates a bipartisan Commission to Strengthen Confidence in Congress.
