I'm here on behalf of the citizens of Dayton to ask you to keep weapons like this off of our streets. I'm here to ask you to do something.

If we are serious about honoring and thanking our brave first responders, the best thing we can do is make sure they are never put in this situation again.

This is one reason I support a national ban on assault weapons.

We must take a comprehensive approach to solving the national crisis of gun violence, an issue that for too long has been ignored by national leaders.

This is why I support a national ban on assault weapons.

By allowing killers to rapidly and repeatedly fire bullets at their human targets without stopping to reload, assault weapons are designed for maximum bloodshed.

Simply put, civilian assault weapons are just semi-automatic versions of military weapons.

Since the Supreme Court's ruling, the ban has had a significant impact on American communities.

What I saw that day at JFK gave me great hope.

When the Trump Administration issued its first version of the Muslim ban in January 2017, it was immediately apparent that it was unconstitutional, discriminatory, and morally reprehensible.

I think that the Federal Government has an obligation--and the Congress can initiate that--to really set certain laws in place that become Federal law that override State laws...

This idea that we heard from the Department of Justice that we will not author any report that is critical of law enforcement is, quite frankly, a disservice to law enforcement.

That memo also stopped the volunteer organizational assessments that Chief Hawkins talked about in Fayetteville.

I am here for White people and Black people and any other people that are victims of excessive force.

This is not what America should be about.

We are not anti-police. We are anti-police brutality.

We must define--when we look at Gwen Carr, 5 years waiting on a decision from the Federal Government.

This Committee needs to investigate why incoming Attorney General Sessions...withheld and removed this designation.

We need to have Federal law that sets various unimpugned standards that will be followed.

Unless the Federal Government steps in and deals with Federal standards and Federal laws, we will be subjected to the local politics.

It is also critical that we not paint law enforcement with a broad brush.

Make no mistake, we will hold President Trump accountable.

We will not let this coverup stand. That is why we are pursuing this impeachment investigation.
