I was proud, along with Representative Ami Bera and Representative Tom Cole, bipartisan way, to introduce the Countering Economic Coercion Act of 2023

Let me be clear on this. I believe concerns about TikTok by the United States government and our allies are justified.

My Republican colleagues are constantly telling us that we need to do more to counter China and criticize the President for not doing enough.

Again, we could have vigorous debate, but we are always friends and working together.

This is a simple amendment that I am offering to improve the legislation offered by my colleague, Representative Andy Barr.

the bill is about the PRC's surveillance balloon and an effort to call the PRC out for its violations of U.S. sovereignty and it actually has nothing to do with Taiwan.

I hope my colleagues on the other side of the aisle will consider this amendment seriously.

I concur that I am very concerned about some of the conversations that we have had with China contemplating giving Russia weapons.

To use them to conclude that problematic transactions are taking place is both wrong and I believe disingenuous.

Based on our conversations, I was really expecting your legislation to focus more narrowly on TikTok rather that the entire Chinese economy.

Despite being the world's second largest economy, the People's Republic of China often enjoys... the status of a developing country.

I do not believe we should be passing legislation without a waiver. The world is simply too unpredictable for Congress to sometimes permanently--permanently lock in the executive branch to sanctions policies.
