The Public Record
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the 32nd President of the United States, serving from March 4, 1933, until his death on April 12, 1945. A member of the Democratic Party, he was born in New York and is best known for his leadership during two of the most significant crises in American history: the Great Depression and World War II. Roosevelt implemented the New Deal, a series of programs and reforms aimed at economic recovery and social welfare, which fundamentally reshaped the role of the federal government in American life.

We shall assume that responsibility cheerfully and in full faith that democracy can be made to function in the world of today as effectively as it did in the simple world in which our Nation was born a century and a half ago.
It is ordered that the following-described lands... be, and they are hereby, reserved and set apart... for the use of the Department of Agriculture as an addition to the Delta Migratory Waterfowl Refuge
I trust that the dinner will be the rousing success which loyalty and fidelity to the principles merit.
A Nation cannot function as a healthy democracy with part of its citizens living under good conditions and part forced to live under circumstances inimical to the general welfare.
It was necessary for our Government in a time of such emergency to be in a position to bargain with other governments by means of energetic and decisive negotiations.
If, indeed, the deeper purpose of democratic Government is to assist as many of its citizens as possible, especially those who need it most, then we have a great opportunity lying ahead in the specific field of housing.
A policy designed to reduce the excessive trade barriers and to establish equality of trade rights is a powerful instrument of economic appeasement and stability.
The reduction continues to be an essential requirement of a full and balanced economic recovery for our country.

Millions of Americans still live in habitations which not only fail to provide the physical benefits of modern civilization, but breed disease and impair the health of future generations.
