The Public Record
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the 32nd President of the United States, serving from March 4, 1933, until his death on April 12, 1945. A member of the Democratic Party, he was born in New York and is best known for his leadership during two of the most significant crises in American history: the Great Depression and World War II. Roosevelt implemented the New Deal, a series of programs and reforms aimed at economic recovery and social welfare, which fundamentally reshaped the role of the federal government in American life.

It has become increasingly clear that these needs cannot be met unless employment by the Works Progress Administration is increased immediately.

Present drilled reserves are estimated to be capable of supplying demand only until November, 1941.

I have the high hope that the industry under the guidance of and in cooperation with the Federal Communications Commission will prove itself to be worthy of the great public trust reposed in it.
The broadcasting industry has, indeed, a very great opportunity to serve the public, but along with this opportunity goes an important responsibility to see that this means of communication is made to serve the high purposes of a democracy.
It is a very significant thing that this awakening has come about in America.
I am grateful to you for this wonderful expression of faith-of faith and works.
I appreciate your coming here and all I can say is God bless you; keep up the good work.
That is one reason why the Churches are stronger today than they were four years ago.
I cannot help feeling myself, from the testimony that comes to me day by day, that there has been definite and distinct progress towards a spiritual reawakening in the four years which have passed since I spoke in 1934.
I must make a confession: I did not realize until the last few years how much influence America has in the world.
We expect through scientific research, through epidemic first aid, through dissemination of knowledge of care and treatment, to help men and women and especially children in every part of the land.
