Elise Marie Stefanik is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for New York's 21st congressional district since January 6, 2015. A member of the Republican Party, she has held various leadership roles within the party, including serving as the House Republican Conference Chair. Alzheimer's forever changes people's lives. It has impacted my family and we have heard from stories on both sides, both individuals in the audience here today, witnesses, as well as Members of Congress who have been impacted.
I represent New York's 21st district, which is one of the most rural districts on the East Coast, but it is also one of the most aged districts if you look at the percentage of seniors that I represent.
As we know, there are approximately 200,000 Americans suffering from early onset Alzheimer's disease and too often people living with this disease in their 30's, 40's, and 50's can have young children, new homes, or growing careers.
I think particularly for nontraditional students who we know are working at the same time as they are taking courses, we want to make sure that employment experience helps with their academic work because I think that will help us address…
Our congressional intent was very clear. The environmental impact study was funded, was authorized by Congress.
One of mine is Fort Drum, which I believe is the strongest community to be the preferred site.
Our expectation, on the record, let me make it perfectly clear, is that our expectation that we will hear from the Secretary of Defense what the preferred site is.
I agree with you and I think it is a real opportunity for bipartisan modernization of the Pell program.
I think that we need to work to modernize opportunities in higher ed to make it available for the nontraditional students.
Make no mistake, this growth was needed after 9/11 and, indeed, can still be justified today due to the continued and morphing national security threats we face.
