This resolution is to make sure that when those people become citizens and cast a vote, it is a vote that counts. The problem is, there are some people out there preying on these people, misrepresenting the law, and getting them to register so that they commit, unwittingly, a felony. Your feelings should be directed to those people who are preying on these innocent people. The innocent people are the ones who wind up committing the felony, but they are the victims. It is the organizations such as Hermandad that should be punished. All this resolution seeks to do is to get the Department of Justice to make sure that those very people you talked about, I tell the gentleman from Texas, when they become citizens can cast a vote and have the confidence that that vote will not be diluted by fraud or illegality. That is what we are doing.
