The numbers 80,000 and 60,000 should be a shot across the bow to this Administration to get off its hands

Thank you for holding today's hearing on the convergence of international accounting standards.

We live in an era that has been defined by the increasing globalization of capital markets.

You cannot have a global market and 22 different accounting standards.

We have to start allowing it to be spoken in the U.S.

Globalization will only continue to accelerate, making the need for this greater than ever before.

The attorney general took an oath to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Instead, he tells the half-truth, the partial truth, and everything but the truth.

It's now up to the president. Is he going to cooperate with an investigation that has really rocked the Justice Department, brought out facts that we have never seen before, or are they going to continue to stonewall?

It is clear that the time has come for the attorney general to step down.

The credibility of the attorney general on this issue has been more or less shattered by what happened -- what happened in that hearing room.

Let them show their good faith by saying, we're willing to do transcript and oath, even if it's in private.

Mr. President, what if the objection to having a transcript? If there's nothing to hide, nothing wrong with the transcript. What is the objection to an oath?

The new e-mails show conclusively that Karl Rove was in the middle of the mess from the beginning. It is now imperative that they testify before Congress and give all of the details of his involvement.

Karl Rove should not wait for a subpoena.

Today's staff resignation does not take heat off the attorney general. In fact, it raises the temperature. Kyle Sampson will not become the next Scooter Libby, the next fall guy.

The rubber stamp days are over. The days of no debate are over.

Yet in order for us to expand trade and make significant technological investments to help grow the economy, the middle-class must feel that they will benefit.

We know that the upheavals caused by technological change and international competition most acutely affect those who are gaining the least economically--the middle-class and those who aspire to get there.

I look forward to working closely with her to use this Committee as an engine for generating economic policies that will work to deliver the benefits of economic growth to all Americans.
