I do want to point out to my colleagues, however, that Indians have made extraordinary gains over the past approximately 15 years in educational achievement in the number of native Americans going to college and in college graduation rates, and in fact probably greater achievements than any other ethnic group in the United States. In my own State of Montana we have now reached the, some think, extraordinary situation where a higher percentage of native Americans now attend college than do the majority of Montanans, and so native Americans have turned the corner with regard to educational achievements, and we ought not abandon the Federal efforts that brought that about.
