“It seems to me it is inherently wrong and the majority of the American people would not want to kick any kid out of school, including the child of parents who have illegally come to this country. But let us all understand something. The question here is not whether people can come to this country, be here illegally and then just stay, put their child in school, get all kinds of services from the government, from the taxpayer, and stay in this country. That is not at issue here. Families who are found to be here illegally are sent back. They are deported. The question is, while we are finding them and while the deportation process is going forward, should their children be on the streets unsupervised or in the schools? I think the vast majority of American people would say, ``well, they should be in the schools. They should not be out running loose as gangs unsupervised on the streets.'' That is all this amendment is about. It does not have to do with the parents being here illegally. It has to do with unsupervised children.”
