Bob Hope's lifelong commitment to public service has made him one of the most honored and esteemed performers in our Nation's history. He spent nearly 60 years boosting the morale of our servicemen and women through goodwill tours, USO shows, and his world famous Christmas specials. Bob Hope's status among our Armed Forces as GI Bob is legendary. Through an act of Congress in 1997, he has the distinction of being the Nation's first and only honorary veteran, a fitting tribute to his life and service. His charitable work and his tours on behalf of our Armed Forces have brought him the admiration and the gratitude of millions and the friendship of every U.S. President since President Roosevelt. In a recent act of generosity, Bob donated his personal papers, radio and television programs, his scripts and his treasured joke file to the Library of Congress and the people of the United States.
