At the end of the day it's the job of the president to split from the liberal base of his party and it's the job of the Republicans to split, in some way, from the most vociferous base of the conservative party -- conservative movement if we're going to accomplish anything.
Fleischer emphasizes the need for both parties to moderate their bases to achieve political progress.
