I am a proud co-lead along with Representative Nydia Velazquez on H.R. 2070, which is the Puerto Rico Self-Determination Act.
Our bill, H.R. 2070, contains, guarantees, and mandates a full information campaign so that Puerto Ricans will know what they are voting for.
Puerto Rico as an island does, in fact, have a right to a fair and democratic self-determination process.
It seems as though there may have been either a failure to collect intelligence on this insurrection prior to it happening or failure to act on intelligence that we may have had.
I am not aware that we had any intelligence indicating that hundreds of individuals were going to storm the Capitol.
I'm sick and tired of the constant vilification intentional mischaracterization in public targeting of Ilhan Omar coming from our caucus.
But the other aspect of this is that H.R.1 stands up against lobbyists and dark money. And I would reckon to think that this is probably just as much a part of Joe Manchin calculus as anything else.
