It is my hope that Congress will enact regular full-year fiscal year 2018 appropriations for HUD programs prior to the end of fiscal year 2017.

Adriano Espaillat is a member of the United States House of Representatives, representing New York's 13th congressional district since January 3, 2017. He is a member of the Democratic Party and is notable for being the first Dominican-American to serve in the U.S. Congress. I echo my Democratic colleagues because I don't think that we can overstate this, that we need a 9/11-style commission.
In my opinion, infrastructure should include our public housing network, and we should provide adequate funding for families to have a safe and healthy environment.
Public housing operations and capital have been underfunded for many, many years, putting long-term viability of the units at risk.
I believe very strongly that this crisis is as serious as the Cuban Missile Crisis.
We should own up to our responsibility to provide a safe, healthy, and sustainable life setting in these units.
This provides funding through April 28, 2017, which is just around the corner.
