It's time, however, for Democrats to stop fighting amongst ourselves and prepare for the tough fight we will have against John McCain in the fall.

You are a once-in-a-lifetime leader. You will make every American proud to be an American. Barack Obama will be a great and historic president who can bring us the change we so desperately need.

You know, you can have all of these issues and these programs. Unless the Congress and the president deal with this, states like mine, local police chiefs, local jurisdictions cannot handle what is a national problem.

A fence is not going to work. Fences have not worked. The Berlin Wall, the Great Wall of China. When people are desperate, they're going to cross that fence.

You can't have sensible immigration policy unless you have stronger border security; that I agree with. But a legalization plan for the 12 million that are already here. What are you going to do, deport 12 million people?

What I think will work is more Border Patrol agents, double the number; more technology at the border to detect, maybe, a nuclear material.

It's got to be a federal solution. It's got to be the Congress and the President acting, and they have failed to act, miserably.

I am ending my campaign for president of the United States.

I hope you -- you make this a wide-open race and give those of us that just happened to be qualified... and those of us that can change this country a chance. That's all I ask.

The central message of my campaign is that we need somebody that can bring the country together. And, all my life, in my career, I have brought countries together. I have brought people together.

What I like best about Iowans is you like underdogs and you like to shake things up. You don't like the national media and the smarty pants telling you who's going to be the next president.

We also have to make sure that China trades on an equitable basis with the United States. We ought to ban all these toys they are bringing in. We ought to ban some of the contaminated food they're bringing in.

We need to create a more sustainable, more innovative economy.

Of course I'm worried, but what happened with our Pakistan policy is we got our principles wrong.

Let's stop this mud-slinging. Let's stop this going after each other on character on trust. Let us debate the issues that affect the American people, and let us be positive. Let's be positive.

You ought to know exactly who you are getting when you pick a president.

I respect the general but a pullout must begin. Staying in Iraq is unacceptable, irresponsible and dangerous.
