S. 943 was introduced by my colleague, Senator Heitkamp, alongside Senators Lankford and Daines, that would help ensure that the Johnson-O'Malley Program, which is so critical, would serve all Native children.

Tom Udall is an American politician and attorney who served as the junior United States Senator from New Mexico from 2009 to 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, Udall previously represented New Mexico's 3rd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2009. Throughout his political career, he has focused on issues such as environmental protection, healthcare, and Native American rights. Udall has been an advocate for legislation addressing the challenges faced by the Navajo people, particularly regarding land ownership and economic development.
I was proud to reintroduce the bipartisan Safeguard Tribal Objects and Patrimony or STOP Act.
Obviously, this is an enormous amount of money that should be going back to Indian Country.
I support the modernization of the Indian Arts and Crafts Act, especially the aggregation and forfeiture issues.
I believe it is long overdue to modernize the 1990 IACA, and help protect Indian artists of federally-recognized tribes.
But I imagine this access presents the challenges with respect to online sales of Native arts and crafts and IACA enforcement.
A network of swindlers are making millions of dollars off the backs of Native Americans.
Thank you, Senator Heinrich so much, and thank you for your good, hard work on the STOP Act, which is for the protection of cultural patrimony.
