The United States must be vigilant in protecting the human rights of racial, ethnic, linguistic minorities, women, and children, religious minorities, and political dissidents, among others.

If we stand by quietly when governments refuse to prosecute human rights abusers and financial fraudsters, then we welcome those guilty of such crimes into the U.S. and into our financial systems, we are indeed enabling their crimes.

This Girls Count legislation--and, Steve, thank you so much for this--will help to bring light and scrutiny to the missing daughters throughout the entire world.

Again, in the spirit of bipartisanship, each of those come before us having worked out any problems that existed between each side of the aisle, and I think that is the way we ought to work.

By statutorily authorizing this existing program and strengthening it, which had its roots in the Bush administration and was formalized by President Obama, is a fittingly bipartisan program.

As such, it is economical in the long run and will likely, over the long term, lead to a reduction in the amount of money we spend on emergency food aid.

It is absolutely the most transformative time in anybody's life. And if we get it right, both mother and child are exponentially more healthy and will have healthier lives going forward.

This legislation will help provide a long-term solution, really, a road map to ending global hunger by authorizing and strengthening the existing national food security program coordinated by the USAID.

We are fools, in my opinion, to suggest that this is going to be a deal that they will live up to.

If you can't treat your people well, why should we respect your word when it comes to something so existential as a nuclear bomb.

Military sites are going to be completely off limits. I mean, that is a deal breaker in and of itself.

The framework is a colossal retreat from the previous internationally agreed upon benchmarks designed to deny nuclear weapons capability to Iran.

The question I ask in my testimony is, you know, is there any reasonable basis to suspect that in 10 years the Iranian regime is going to be gone or radically transformed.

I served on the staff of this committee in the 1990s when the Clinton administration negotiated a nuclear deal with North Korea called the agreed framework.

If we try to change the terms of the deal, Iran will be in a position to accuse us of being the lawless nation.

I characterize this as a Faustian bargain because, you know, it is similar to the German legend about the man who, you know, wanted magical powers and so he cut a deal with the Devil.

And it is so deeply appreciated, and thank you for defending those who are at risk.
