“I will try to be as honest as I can in my statement. I would urge people to refrain from calling people liars and what have you. And referring to people in their sincerity in standing before the whole world and saying I have sinned seems to me to be a pretty good repentance; and maybe if God can forgive somebody, we can. Maybe someday in our heart we can see to do that. I want to make a couple of points here. When Ronald Reagan was President, his first budget that was sent to this floor by David Stockman called for the elimination of $125 for the minimum Social Security for the oldest, sickest senior citizens in this country, to eliminate it. Republicans have never been for Social Security. This is a Democratic program. Ronald Reagan took us to Camp David, and it was the Democrats fault that these deficits escalated during the Reagan administration. Why do I say that? Because there was a group of people that were called boll weevils that voted for this budget, and they escalated tremendously. They doubled during the Reagan administration.”
