At its core, the American Dream is about owning a home. For far too many Americans, this has turned into a pipe dream. Right now, there are more than 343,000 households in North Carolina who spend over one-half of their monthly income on rent, leaving too little for other expenses like healthcare, transportation, and nutritious food. That is why I am proud to have worked on a commonsense action plan that outlines some of the work that we have done already and what we need to do to address the affordable housing crisis we are facing across the country. This plan addresses our housing supply, reforms to land use policies, improves housing financing, and much more. As a vice chair of the New Dem Affordable Housing Task Force, I will continue to put forward commonsense ideas and solutions to build more affordable housing, increase affordable housing access, and tackle this crisis. ____________________
