I want to say to the gentlemen on the other side, I do not have two better friends than the two gentlemen handling the opposition to this, but this is not about anything except responding to the people of America who are concerned about what is happening at our borders. I support my good friend from Virginia because, as the gentleman says, this is an authorization bill. But I can say to Members today, the American people are fed up, tired about the fact we have between 8,000 and 10,000 illegal aliens coming across the border each and every week. People in this country feel we are not doing our job as elected officials in Washington, D.C. I have one of the best staffs in eastern North Carolina, in the State of North Carolina, of helping people who want to come to this country legally. We do everything we can to help them. But what the Goode amendment is proposing is absolutely a national security issue. It is no more or no less than national security. How in the world, when we have terrorists that are planting themselves down in Central and South America, and we have had this told to us on the Committee on Armed Services, we know this is happening; how can we not say to the American people that their security is of the utmost importance?
