If folks don't recognize the current Federal minimum wage of what it means, let me tell you what it means. If you are working 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year, never get sick and never take a single day off of work for vacation, you earn $10,712 a year. If we are serious as a Nation in moving people from welfare to work, we have got to value their work and we have got to pay them a living wage. And that is exactly what the gentleman from Georgia is talking about doing; and I am so pleased that Speaker-elect Pelosi has included that in her legislative agenda for the first 100 hours.
