“I am as sick and tired of all the partisan bickering as anyone else. I do not look at an idea and look at whether it is just a Democratic idea or Republican idea. I look at it, is it a commonsense idea? If it is, then I support it. But when it comes to the budget and when it comes to the tax cut that was passed earlier this year, the Republican leadership and this administration are dead wrong. Do not take my word for it; look at the numbers. Under this administration, 3.2 million people have lost their jobs. We now have 9 million people out of work, unable to provide for their families. People have lost $.6 trillion in the stock market, and much of that is retirement savings for so many working families. There are 43.6 million people in America without health insurance. Ten million of them are children. Most of the rest of them work for a living. They are working the jobs with no benefits. Trade deficits have increased nearly $100 billion. We had a $5.6 trillion projected surplus when President Bush took office.”
