“That is a larger issue. My bill would simply deal with these purges and the fact that there often have been mistaken purges. It would give people who were purged the chance to respond. I again want to commend the gentleman from New Jersey (Mr. Holt) and all the others today for being part of this. We need to take these next steps in election reform. We have gotten rid of the unregulated soft money, and we have made certain that candidates are going to have to stand up and take responsibility for the content of their ads. We have made some headway. But this legislation that the gentleman from New Jersey (Mr. Holt) has introduced in addition to the bill I have just described I believe would take us several steps further to restoring faith in our democracy, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on this.”
