These children did not need to suffer. We can and must help them succeed through stronger investments in followup and interventions, such as sign language training, hearing aids, and speech-language development. Early identification and intervention are both keys to a child's well-being. Our legislation would ensure that these programs are there for the children who need them. A vote for this bill is a vote to keep this program strong. I urge my colleagues to support our bipartisan bill.
