I thank our colleague from Michigan for organizing and for allowing me to speak in this time of tribute. It is truly a high privilege and a rare moment to recognize someone who has served 50 years in this remarkable institution and, of course, that is my colleague John Dingell. Of course, I am also privileged to call him a friend and a great mentor. And that extends to Debbie, the beautiful Debbie as he calls her, whom I knew first as a congressional spouse and got a glimpse of the partnership that now I know even better, when I saw her leadership among the spouses who add a lot to this place here and a respect for her tireless work amongst us all. John Dingell has been a remarkable role model for me in the House and particularly on the Energy and Commerce Committee. It is an understatement to say it is the highest privilege and a matter of great pride to be able to serve with him, to learn from him, to catch the spirit of tenacity, being a bulldog on issues that you care very deeply about. He works so hard on behalf of his constituents and it shows. No matter the issue, first and foremost, as many years as he has served and as beloved as he is by them, he goes back to them time after time. It has been a pleasure to be in his district and to see the great affection with which he is held.…
