Kim Janey: “I never even imagined I would see a black mayor in my lifetime in the city of Boston.”

While I am proud to be Boston`s first women mayor and the first mayor of color I am also very proud to know that I will not be the last.

I stand on many shoulders as the first -- the first black mayor and the first woman mayor, and I wanted to pay homage to those who have come before me.

I had rocks and racial slurs thrown at my bus simply for attending school while black.

It is incredibly important that we make sure we`re getting the vaccine out equitably, that we are reaching all communities and lifting up those who have been hardest hit.
