Public frustration with corruption represents one of the greatest threats to confidence in political systems across the region.

The situation in Venezuela remains one of the worst crises in our hemisphere's history, and the responsibility for the crisis falls squarely on the shoulders of the late Hugo Chavez and Nicolas Maduro.

We see these and other challenges confronting the region, but we stand by our conviction that democracy remains the best form of government to address them.

The two presidents agreed that strengthening democracy, protecting human rights, and addressing the climate crisis would anchor our shared agenda.
