Max Baucus is a former U.S. Senator from Montana, serving from 1978 to 2014. A member of the Democratic Party, Baucus was known for his work on health care reform and tax policy. He played a significant role in the passage of the Affordable Care Act and was a key advocate for various economic initiatives during his tenure. Baucus also served as the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, where he influenced legislation related to taxation and trade. After leaving the Senate, he was appointed as the U.S. Ambassador to China, where he focused on strengthening U.S.-China relations.
I was so proud that Senator Inhofe and I worked together to introduce and pass the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act.
According to the Department of Transportation, every $1 billion in Federal money for transportation that is matched by State and local funds creates approximately 35,000 jobs.
I don't think it is good to keep extending the old bill, extending and extending it.
I urge my colleagues to recognize that we can unite around this issue because not only does our transportation system cross county and State lines, it reaches across party lines.
Senator Inhofe was extremely important in making sure that we extended the highway programs. Because it would have been a disaster for our States.
I am happy to respond to Mr. Begich from Alaska. I support the conservation easement deduction and sympathize with the Senator's efforts. I will work with Mr. Begich and Ms. Murkowski to address conservation issues in the new Congress.
