The Early Reading First Program is designed to improve the language and early literacy development of children ages 3 through 5. Reading, as we all know, is the most important and fundamental skill for children to learn. This new provision in the bill will allow the use of Federal funds and authorize the appropriation of funds for dissemination of a reading readiness screening tool that is based on top quality research for children in this age group.
