Because what’s going to happen when you raise the bar, when you raise the level of expectations, what’s happened in Mississippi is exactly what’s going to happen in Oklahoma.

Until it is fixed, it means we do not have reliable running water at scale. It means the city cannot produce enough water to fight fires to reliably flush toilets and to meet other critical needs.

It really wasn’t a miracle at all. It was the direct result of very good, strong policy followed by a plan to properly implement, and also — and perhaps most importantly — an accountability piece that was built into the statute.

I am calling on my state’s legislature to repeal the law and require mail-in ballots to be received by the clerk by 5:00pm on Election Day in order to be counted.
