On the recordMarch 4, 1998
I do oppose the bill and oppose the rule, Mr. Speaker, because I do not believe the American people have enough facts about this issue. I do not believe the American people are prepared to have their national legislature move on a decision concerning Puerto Rican statehood. Now, there are people who have risen on the floor today and previously, who said this is not a statehood bill, but I would submit to my colleagues, Mr. Speaker, that this is very much a statehood bill.
