Pressuring public servants into betraying their oath was a fundamental part of the playbook.

Threats to people's livelihood and lives. Threats of violence that Donald Trump knew about and amplified.

They represent the backbone of our democracy at its most important moments: When the citizens cast their votes and when those votes are counted.

We must reject violence. We must embrace our Constitution with the reverence it deserves, take our oath of office and duties as citizens seriously, informed by the knowledge of right and wrong, and armed with no more than the power of our…

But, for Donald Trump, these witnesses and others like them were another roadblock to his attempt to cling to power.

He lied to his supporters and the country.

He lost. But he betrayed the trust of American people. The people had voted him out. And the courts upheld the will of the people.

The select committee to investigate the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol will be in order.

I`m from a part of the country where people justify the actions of slavery, the Klu Klux Klan and Lynching and reminded of that dark history, as I hear voices today, try and justify the actions of the insurrectionists on January 6, 2021.

The country faces so many threats from White supremacists and militia extremists, cyber criminals, pandemic diseases, authoritarian governments, and extreme weather caused by climate change.

January 6th and the lies that led to insurrection have put two and a half centuries of constitutional democracy at risk.

Yet just as importantly, these programs must ensure that the protections for privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties that all Americans enjoy are not swept aside in the name of prevention.

We are here today to discuss the Department of Homeland Security's Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention (TVTP) grant program.

The goal is to reach people who may have started down the wrong path but have not yet committed a crime.

These attacks leave deep and lasting scars on our communities, and our Government must do everything in its power to put a stop to this violence.
