427 Members of the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning the on-going genocide and crimes against humanity being committed against Uyghurs.

Ensuring that U.S. consumers are not unwittingly supporting human rights violations by purchasing goods made wholly or in part using forced labor from the Xinjiang region of China is truly an issue of bipartisan importance.

The exploitation of Uyghur forced labor enriches Chinese industry at the expense of American manufacturers and workers.

We meet today under a cloud of chaos and dysfunction, as the Republican Majority has failed to elect a Speaker for more than 2 weeks and counting.

I hope this committee will use this time, as it did in the last two Congresses, to improve the Department of Homeland Security's emergency response and recovery capabilities.

Fortunately, upon taking office shortly after the SolarWinds incident, President Biden quickly took critical actions to modernize our cyber defenses.

We all remember learning about the SolarWinds intrusion in December 2020, which highlighted how vulnerable Federal agencies were to foreign espionage campaigns and how outdated our Federal network cyber defenses were.

Under the Trump administration's unconscionable family separation policy, for example, over 5,500 children were taken from their parents at the border.

Given the hearing title, it's apparently lost on Republicans that it was actually the Trump administration's border policies that imposed devastating human costs.

Unfortunately, the current Republican Majority appears to be turning its back on bipartisan cooperation again.

We must never, ever return to the failed border and immigration policies of the last administration.

I was pleased that President Biden signed into law that bill last year.

Throughout this committee's history, we have tried to work in a bipartisan manner to help combat human trafficking.

The Republican Majority is unfortunately engaging in partisan politics, again, with today's hearing.
