One of the issues that I have been most passionate about is stopping the horrific crime of sex trafficking and protecting young victims. Earlier this year Congress took action and passed a package of bipartisan bills, including one that I authored aimed at combatting this crime. I said at the time that this legislation would save lives. Madam Speaker, in the short time since these laws have gone into effect, we are already seeing results. Recently, a provision in the legislation that allowed local law enforcement to coordinate their efforts with the U.S. Marshals Service was used to help find a kidnapped Tennessee teenager. The 14-year-old girl was rescued in Virginia, and her abductor, a known sex offender, was taken into custody. Madam Speaker, ending human trafficking requires vigilance and a bipartisan commitment to ensure that children are safe from those wishing to exploit them. The actions we have taken to combat this awful crime are making a difference and saving lives. ____________________
