“I have always appreciated his leadership and his energy that he puts to the issues that he is dedicated to and certainly the spending limitation program that he has just proposed, of which I am proud to be a cosponsor. We will work to prove to our colleagues on the other side that there is a way to balance the Federal budget and do so in a reasonable fashion without the draconian style arguments or comments that oftentimes come from the other side of the aisle when they find that they are threatened with the concept of a balanced budget. We know that can be done, and we know that there will be tough choices to be made, but it must be done. I would like, Mr. President, to mention another issue that I guess the word disappointment comes to mind when I think of how it was used over the course of the last several weeks by several of my colleagues. And that was the issue of Social Security.”
