How much do you think adding to the debt is a good idea? I mean, $3 trillion, $4 trillion? Five?

The President has proposed a tax cut geared to the wealthiest Americans, sort of hoping it will trickle down to everybody else.

The President talks about buy America, hire America. How about owning America?

I have a lot of concerns. I guess I would start by asking if you value and if the administration values rural communities and the infrastructure in rural communities.

I do not see any major Wall Street investors being willing to invest in the water and sewer system

Those flights are absolutely critical to connect businesses, hospitals, educators, citizens

I would like to see that be even higher, and I join with the American Farm Bureau, National Milk Producers and National Farmers Union in supporting something we put into the last appropriations bill.

We moved, in the last farm bill, away from payments to farmers when times were good to risk management tools like crop insurance.

SNAP--helping people who need temporary help with food is a win-win, because the people who make the food get paid.

Rural development and other investments are part of the way we invest in small towns.

I wonder if you might speak about the impact of those cuts on the farm and rural economy?

It is hard to believe we are already talking about that, Mr. Chairman.

The bill that came over from the House is exactly in the opposite direction: $880 billion being cut from Medicaid.

I would hope that we are going to be focusing on improving quality, lowering costs, lowering premiums, creating more quality.
