I want to also thank the ranking member, the chairman of the committee, and the membership of the committee for their fine work. I think that they have, under very difficult circumstances, gone about doing the work that is important to the country and uniting the country and making sure that the country is protected. What I am concerned about is that this House has continually stood up and voted against any additional base closure commissions. I recognize that there is the possibility of a recommittal motion which will be able to be addressed, but I also notice that there may not be any time to be able to have that discussion. I know that the House has stood firm and negotiated in very difficult circumstances to be able to make what they felt was a very important effort in this regard. But having been a part of a process in 1995 and witnessing it firsthand and also being able to watch it and participate in another instance back in 1988 in that process and then recognizing that we may not have gained the savings that were supposed to be gained, and then also at the same time recognizing that a lot of the communities that were left behind were truly left behind, there was no additional resources for environmental or community cleanup.
