I do think again--we are talking about the separation here--about whether this is an import into Maine for processing and an export from Maine.
How much of an impediment is having to go through this to you and other businesses like yours?
I think they will; so far we have not been able to come to an agreement.
Now, as Congresswoman Pingree just mentioned, this is a very perishable critter.
I have never seen the reports of shipments that have had to be seized coming into the country...
I do understand the mechanics of why you need a certain amount of time to make sure the inspectors are available...
Pingree and I, in this case, we represent about 650 very hard-working, honest Mainers up and down the coast.
It is absolutely unacceptable, in my opinion.
I guess that is the way I look at it, that they have plenty of endangered species that they do need to watch out for.
My understanding is that it was not enforced until 2012.
I appreciate very much your having this hearing today, and I am glad to be here with my colleagues.
