On the recordMarch 22, 1994
I need to join with the gentleman from North Carolina [Mr. Neal] in congratulating the gentlewoman from New Jersey [Mrs. Roukema] for her work on this bill. Interstate banking, for the record, is long overdue and much-needed legislation, because it essentially frees in many respects our Nation's financial institutions to be competitive and to have some sense of purpose. It gives banks the kind of organizational and operational flexibility that is so very, very desperately needed. Madam Speaker, I voted for this bill in subcommittee. I voted for it in the full committee. I thought it was important that we have it here on the floor. And important also, quite frankly, that it passed.
