I am quite concerned with these developments. The Congress has become much more political and partisan by any judgment. I think that is regrettable, but it has happened, and we have to try to contend with it here as best we can. But I think it is a dire mistake if this attitude carries over into our decisions regarding the judiciary, the third, independent branch of our Government and the one that, in order to maintain public confidence in our justice system, ought to have politics removed from it as much as is humanly possible.
