With $87 billion, we could spend 27 times more on AIDS research than the Federal Government spent in fiscal year 2000. We could spend $226,000 on each individual AIDS patient in the United States, and we could fulfill the President's promise of $3 billion for funding for AIDS in Africa this year and have enough left over to make a similar commitment for 28 more years.
