I must say I am thrilled that this bill is on the floor of the House of Representatives. I think it is a very important issue. I join my colleagues in supporting this legislation to provide group long-term care insurance for Federal employees and annuitants, active and retired military personnel, and their families. That means a policy of, like, 20 million people. It is critical that we pass this legislation. It takes an important step in helping our Nation's families cope with the enormous financial burden of long-term care. This bill, in its inception, has had long-term care because we have been working on it for some time, and it was for more than a year and a half that I led Congressional efforts to make long-term care group insurance more accessible and more affordable. The legislation we are considering today, I am pleased to say, is really pretty much a template of the bill I introduced, H.R. 1111, the Federal Civilian and Uniformed Services Long-Term Care Insurance Act of 1999.
