Americans across the Nation are increasingly interested in the contribution that clean, homegrown fuels can make to our environment, economic development, and energy security. Additionally, I hear from many of my constituents that they believe Federal policy should move toward the development of biofuels that do not compete with food and otherwise operate on a feedstock and technology-neutral basis. Today's legislation advances those goals by including algae as a qualified feedstock under the existing cellulosic biofuel credit. It is forward-looking legislation that recognizes the rapidly evolving nature of the advanced biofuels industry and the demonstrated potential of biofuels made from algae.
