“first, I want to thank Senator Durbin, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, for his leadership on this issue but, just as importantly, for his leadership on so many human rights and civil rights issues. Thank you for the hearing that you conducted in the Judiciary Committee. It shed light on a lot of the ridiculous arguments that some have made against the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. More importantly, it showed why it is important for us to remove any ambiguity on the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.
